Reading Comprehension Program

Students often improve math skills more quickly than reading comprehension because math instruction tends to produce measurable gains more readily, while reading comprehension remains stubbornly difficult and stagnant. According to the 2024 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), fewer than one-third of students nationwide are proficient in reading, and the percentage of students below basic reading levels is at historic highs .

Because reading comprehension is both more challenging to improve and foundational to success across academic subjects, we have developed a program focused exclusively on this critical area. Rather than treating comprehension as a byproduct of general classroom time, our program targets the specific skills that underlie strong reading — such as understanding text structure, building vocabulary, and drawing inferences — to help students make real, lasting progress where national trends show many are still falling behind.

During each 90-minute class, students will work on skills critical to comprehension and receive homework based on those skills. 

Each lesson will be unique, so students can choose the classes they would like to come into. Sessions do need to be registered for in advance.
